Airbrush systems- what do I use?

Hello~!

As you have probably earlier noticed, I do sometimes use airbrush makeup. But with all the brands and everything out there what is good, and not too pricey?

What I use for an airbrush machine is the Nuave Airbrush System

www.nuaveworld.com

Compared to Temptu and Luminess's systems, the machine itself is much more affordable and works very well with virtually all airbrush makeup.  It's also easy to assemble and clean and it's portable too!  It weighs about one pound all together so it can go with you anywhere.

It is also a lot cheaper than Temptu's or Luminess's machines. The nuave is $149.95, Temptu's basic set is $225 (and requires you to use their special cartridges) and Luminess's basic model is 169.99 but only has one speed (Nuave has three for cheaper) and if you like Luminess's makeup, you can use it easily with the Nuave.  They also have a one year warranty on their systems and they come in a variety of colors as well.

As for inexpensive airbrush makeup, I found a great brand called Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.  They make a wide variety of things, I previously reviewed their lip tars.  Their airbrush cosmetics are also really good. They have foundations, contour/blushes, shimmers, and mixing bases/correctors.

I will be doing upcoming videos on how to use the Nuave, how to clean it, and looks I made using it.

If you have any questions about any of this, please ask!

Love,

ObeyBeauty

Body wash haul!

Hello!

I was at the store today buying some groceries, and there was a huge sale on body wash. All kinds of it.  So, I grabbed a lot, and I will be reviewing them.

In my past experiences, not all body washes are created equal, I have even used some that left me feeling a bit greasy and dirty. :(

Also, I think I smell another MAC haul coming. Or some other cosmetic purchase. :D  Don't know yet though.  I need to update what I have, my collection has almost DOUBLED since I started my blog!  I can barely fit all of it in my makeup case.

Well, keep posted!

BB Cream

Hello!

So, some of you who are into Asian cosmetics (like me) may have heard of something called BB Cream.  If not, keep reading, this is good stuff!

BB cream is short for Blemish Balm.  What is does is minimizes and hides pores, lightens skin blemishes or covers them completely, and evens out the skin tone.  It can be worn alone or under more makeup.  It is important to know that it is NOT a moisturizer, but more like a base foundation you can wear under other makeup.  Usually they are tinted but quickly adjust to your skin color.

Does it work? I should think so.  I use it and it makes the bigger pores on my nose and chin vanish, and hides most of my little freckles. My camera isn't that great at taking closeups so that I can show you the difference.

Before: see the pores and unevenness.

After: pores are minimized, skin color is more even.

There are MANY brands of BB cream, most of them Korean.  I have two different kinds: The Face Shop Hydro Splash BB Cream and Skin79 Lovely Girl BB cream.

Hydro Splash is more water based, and gives a bit lighter coverage.  Skin79 one is wonderful for covering the pores.  These before and after pics are after using the same one.

Tip! Using BB cream before airbrushing makes airbrush foundation look even BETTER!!!!

Spoiler: My next contest, I will be giving away a full sized bottle of Skin79 Lovely Girl BB Cream!

For now, enter my current contest here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzec3rAVomA

Keep visiting! It makes me smile! ^^

Eyelid Glue and Eyelid Tape

Hello-

This post is mostly aimed toward people with single layered eyes (mostly Asian) who want to achieve the double eyelid look without getting surgery.

There are two main ways to do it- either using eyelid glue or tape.

Here is an example of using glue, you can make your eyelids fold in several ways.

Both ways are equally effective, it really is something that should be chosen based on preference.  Sometimes people say shadow clumps up over the glue.

Even though I have double eyelids myself, I have tried both tapes and glues even on my own eyes.  I did see a little difference.  Personally, I like the glue better because my eyes got oily and the tape started to come off.

The products I used:

Koji Eye Talk (Lid glue)

Koji Technical Tape (wide)

They are relatively inexpensive and have a little tool to help push the lids to the shape you want.

Using either one also takes practice! So if you try, don't get discouraged if it looks funny the first few times.

Reminder: Contest for a rainbow theme!  Win an 88 Color Coastal Scents Palette!

Contest end 3/31/10 and is open WORLDWIDE! ^^

Bare Escentuals Review

Hello~

I have another review- this time of Bare Escentuals, the really popular mineral makeup.

This is best for people who are low maintenance, and just want a natural look.

Most people apply the makeup in a few steps.

1. Conceal.
2. Foundation
3. Blush/color
4. Mineral veil to seal it all in.

This makeup comes in starter kits, which I highly recommend, they come with brushes, makeup, mineral veil and an instructional DVD.   It's ALMOST impossible to put on too much! Also the minerals are very good for your skin.

This is the makeup I use when I just don't feel like messing with lots of makeup, yet don't want to go out barefaced.

You can learn more about this stuff by visiting their site:

www.bareescentuals.com

Again, a reminder of my contest! Enter to win a Coastal Scents 88 color palette!

MAC shadows vs. Coastal Scents Shadows

Hello!

As you know, I use both MAC eye shadows and Coastal Scents eye shadows.  Is one better than the other? What are the pros and cons of each? Well, here are the pros and cons of each (in my experience)

Coastal Scents Pros

1. Cheaper!
2. You can choose the same colors in either shimmer or matte shades.
3. Highly pigmented
4. wide variety of colors
5. applies easily

Coastal Scents Cons

1. Doesn't stay on long for me without a primer
2. Cannot customize your own palette
3. Cannot pick only a few colors of your choosing
4. Small amount of color for each shade
5. Must be mail ordered

MAC Pros

1. Professional grade makeup
2. Can customize your own palette or pick individual colors
3. High pigmentation
4. Stays on well even without primer
5. Bigger sizes per color
6. Available at stores
7. Special edition colors come out time to time
8. Discounts for professional users

MAC Cons

1. PRICEY! 14.00 per eyeshadow color
2. Colors sometimes get discontinued
3. Some colors are only available to licensed professionals

In the end, I prefer MAC, but sometimes I like Coastal Scents too.  It depends on what I am using it for, etc. They are both good brands in the end and it really is a matter of preference.

A reminder- My Rainbow contest is on until March 31 and the winner gets a Coastal Scents 88 color palette either in Matte or Ultra Shimmer!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar

Hello-

I got some more goodies in the mail- Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars!

http://www.occmakeup.com/liptar.html

These are very highly pigmented lip colors and they can be easily mixed, they are more like a lip paint than a gloss.  They have a slight minty feeling on the lips, as they have peppermint oil in them, as well as hemp oil and vitamin E.  I got a few colors to try it out- Safety Orange, Feathered, Anime, Plum, Uber, Conquest, and NSFW.

Here they are on my desk!

When I say they are intense, I mean it.  And I am using HARDLY any, these are $12.50 for a reason.

Examples:

Anime

Feathered

Another really helpful tip- Put these on with a lip brush! They come with a tube that allows for lip application but being how intense these colors are, it looks better when applied more precisely.

My favorite perfumes...

Hello~~~

I'm finally done studying for a while.  I have reviewed a bunch of other stuff, but not perfumes yet!  So, I want to share with you my two favorite perfumes, the ones that seem to smell the best on me.

#1 (My evening/special occasion scent) Coco Mademoiselle

It smells very nice, a bit spicy and floral, but it is quite strong, which is why I wear it out at night or to somewhere special.  I have the Eau de Parfum, the bath bubbles, and the dry oil spray.  All together, the smell really lasts.  <3

#2 My every day scent- Chance Eau Fraiche

This is one of the newer scents by Chanel, I found one of those scented sample pages in a magazine, took a sniff, and I knew I HAD to have it.  It is an Eau de Toilette spray, meaning it is a bit cheaper than the Eau de Parfum, and is lighter, more suitable for the office/school/etc.  It smells like the original Chance fragrance but with a fresh "clean" smell to it.  Highly recommended!

Unfortunately on me, Chanel No. 5 smells great in the bottle, but awful with my body chemistry... :(   These smells smell good on me, maybe not for others.  The key with perfume is to find one that works well with your natural body chemistry.

Perfume wearing tips! aka how I put perfume on!

1. Spray two short bursts on the side of your neck before dressing, then let it dry before putting on your shirt.  Why?  It gives the scent a chance to dry into your skin, and not stain your clothes.  Perfume DOES stain after a while and sometimes it is very difficult to get the old scent out of cloth.

2. If the scent is very strong, and you're unsure about it, spritz some in the air and walk under the falling mist.  Then your hair and shoulders will be lightly scented.

3. If you wear silk-strung pearls- to extend the life of the pearls (they DO absorb scents if they are real!) put the perfume on FIRST, and pearls always go on last, and are taken off first.

4. Don't wear too much... PLEASE.

5. Unless you are going to be somewhere where you don't wash your hands often, don't bother putting perfume on your wrists.  You'll just wash it off and there goes wasted perfume.

6: Try to get real samples before you buy a big bottle for yourself! Then you get to see how your body works with them, then choose the best one and buy that!!!

Well, that's it for tonight! I hope you all had a nice Valentine's Day and Lunar New Year!

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper for MAC Viva Glam

Hello~

I am a big fan of Lady Gaga and MAC, (no secret~!) so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw on MAC's website that she and Cyndi Lauper were this year's celebrity endorsers for their Viva Glam campaign.

I think both colors of lipstick are really pretty (Cyndi has a bluish red, Gaga a bright pink) as well as the rest of their makeup!  MAC has both looks up on their site to try, so those will be am upcoming video as well~!  Although you can't see it well in this picture, according to the instructions, Gaga's eyebrows are actually filled in with pink!

All proceeds of Viva Glam edition lipstick goes toward the fight against AIDS.  So look cute and help a good cause!

Mmmmm.... Grapefruit~

Hello!

So far, everything I have reviewed has been more higher end, department store product.  Today, I have one for a drugstore item!  Two, in fact.

I picked up Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash and Body Clear- both with the pink grapefruit extract.

The acne wash

Body Clear

Both products have 2% salicylic acid, meaning they are both for treating acne, be it on the face or body.  They smell GREAT and both leave you feeling really clean, even if you have no acne to begin with.   Next, I may try the body clear scub in the same scent.   Cost wise, they are KIND OF high for drugstore items, I think each one was between $7-9.00.  In either case, highly recommended!  I do however, wish Neutrogena made a toner and moisturizer with the grapefruit. ^^

Video game look I want to try...

Hello~

As you may know, I am also into video games and anime, one of my favorites being Final Fantasy.

There is a character whose makeup I'd like to try on my own face- Lulu from Final Fantasy 10.

I've got the brown eyes and the dark hair down... I think I'll try this out for work tomorrow and see how it goes! I'll also take a pic before I head out. ^^

Good night~

A few days in to the new year now

Hello hello~

I hope you enjoyed my previous video for New Years, I am making another one soon.  However, I have hit a snag.  I need a DV/Firewire cable.  Why camcorder makers don't include this with the camera is beyond me... O___o

But the good news, future videos won't be just slideshows, but real videos with movement! YAY~!
